Founded in 1883, the university has grown from a single building, eight teachers, two departments and 221 students to a 350-acre main campus with 17 colleges and schools, about 24,000 faculty and staff, and more than 50,000 students. UT is a diverse learning community, with students from more than 100 countries and a student body that reflects the face of our society. African American, Hispanic, and Asian American students make up more than 35 percent of the enrollment, and 9 percent are international students.
Some academic departments at UT Austin award academic scholarships for which international students are eligible to compete. However, many such awards are available to students only after an initial year of work at UT Austin. To find out if your department offers such scholarships, contact your college or department.
